Work with Matt McDannel

November 21, 2025Thanks for your interest in wanting to work with me. I am genuinely excited by the prospect of working with you.I recently received hundreds of direct messages for roles I just posted. Please note I'm not the recruiter or hiring manager and due to volume I won't be able to respond to every question directly.I've created this page and I hope this helps answer most of the questions on your mind. I believe this should answer most people's questions, and if it doesn't please be patient as I work through my DMs.Thank you.-MattSo you're interested in applying, what can you do?
- I invite you to apply as a referral under me (link at bottom)
- If the recruiter or HM shows interest, I'll reach out to you and we can have 1:1 talk about working at Okta and I can answer some more questions for you
- Read the FAQ below.
FAQ:
Q: I clicked the link and it just takes me to the Okta careers page, are you sure this is a referral?
A: It's a unique URL and if you apply it becomes a referral that I watch and recruiters will know to contact me if they need more info.
Q: Can you submit my resume/application internally for me?
A: I can't download unverified sender files anymore, sorry. In the meantime I invite you to apply with my special link at the bottom which achieves the same exact thing and I can follow your application.
Q: Is this remote eligible?
A: This is a company-wide policy and something you should talk to a recruiter about for flexibility. As far as I know and understand all the new openings are near offices to promote a collaborative in-person culture when needed, but we still have a remote workforce.
Q: Can you review my resume?
A: I usually receive dozens of these requests a week, and when a job post goes popular I get hundreds in a few days. While I would like to help everyone, I can't do this.
Q: Who's the hiring manager or recruiter?
A: I can't share.
Q: I applied with your link, why haven't they contacted me?
A: Your resume/experience should match what the hiring team is looking for. A referral won't be able to change that.
Q: Can you message the hiring manager/recruiter for me?
A: If we've ever worked together (or worked with a mutual), yes! I would like to help everyone, but it helps no one if I send hundreds of personal requests to a small group of recruiters and they tune me out.
Rest assured if you apply and a recruiter/HM asks me about you, I will be in touch and we can hop on a 1:1 call where we can highlight your experience best.
Q: What kind of questions can I expect to be asked in the interview?
A: Each department is different and if you're speaking with a recruiter they can give you some guidance.
Q: What do you like about working at Okta?
A: I appreciate the autonomy and the freedom to run my programs however I want. If you thrive on making your own structure, this is great. If you need structure to follow, this might not be it. I also appreciate my cross functional colleagues who are some of the most thoughtful and skilled people I've worked with.
If you still have questions that I wasn't able to answer above, please drop me a line on LinkedIn. It might take some time to get to your message, thank you for your patience. If you've gotten this far, thanks for reading, hope to see you on the other side.
